Conflicts within dysfunctional families have always been a favourite subject to filmmakers. Director M Mohanan says his latest movie, ‘916’ narrates a set of events when two closely-knit families lose their balance.
The director, who has always made it a point to helm socially relevant movies that leave a message like ‘Katha Parayumpol’ and ‘Manikyakallu’, says, “916 is an indicator of purity, the reason why I opted it as the title of the movie. Ideally every family relation should be untainted, which is not the scenario that we see around. Families are breaking like bubbles.
‘‘The film, shooting of which is progressing in Kozhikode, unravels the lives of two families. One is Dr Ramesh, his wife and two children. Mukesh plays the role of doctor and Meera Vasudev plays the role of his wife. The second family has two members only - Dr Harikrishnan played by Anoop Menon and his daughter. Malavika, who acted in movies like ‘Hero’ and ‘Nidra’, will play the role of the daughter. While Dr Harikrishnan is an altruist who considers his profession as a means to serve the society, Dr Ramesh thinks otherwise. Asif Ali enters their lives as Prasanth, a youngster who falls in love with Malavika
